Self-introduction

I’ll share with you some phrases about self-introduction in Japanese.

[To start with]

Nice to meet you. : はじめまして。Hajimemashite.

My name is 〇〇. : 私の名前は〇〇です。

Watashino namae wa 〇〇 desu.

I’m from Japan.:私は日本生まれです。

Watashi wa nihon umare desu.

[I am a 〇〇.] 私は〇〇です。

I am a student. : 私は学生です。

Watashi wa gakusei desu.

My major is 〇〇.:私の専攻は〇〇です。

Watashino senkou wa 〇〇 desu.

ex. (literature:文学 bungaku, mathematics:数学 suugaku, economics:経済学 keizaigaku, philosophy : 哲学 tetsugaku)

I am a teacher.:私は教師です。

Watashi wa kyoushi desu.

I teach 〇〇.:私は〇〇を教えています。

Watashi wa 〇〇 wo oshieteimasu.

ex.(physics:物理学 butsurigaku, psychology : 心理学 shinrigaku, Japanese:日本語 nihongo)

[I like doing 〇〇. ] 私は〇〇が好きです。

I like reading books. : 私は本を読むのが好きです。

Watashi wa hon wo yomunoga sukidesu.

doing something : 〜をすること

wo surukoto/ 〜をするの wo suruno

*”Doing something” can be sometime simplified as below. Both are natural. However, I feel simplified one sounds more smart.

私は読書がすきです。

Watashi ha dokusyo ga sukidesu.

ex.(shopping:買い物をする kaimono wo suru 買い物 kaimono, watching anime:アニメを見る anime wo miru)

[To conclude]

よろしく。yoroshiku (it’s casual)

よろしくお願いします。yoroshiku onegaishimasu (It’s polite and frequently used)

*These are often used to convey your feeling that you want to keep good relationship.
